According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, Curtis Granderson has made a commitment to play for the U.S. team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Granderson will join other commits to the team, alongside the first recruit, current Yankee and Michigander Derek Jeter.
Just in the last week, Mark DeRosa, Ryan Braun, David Wright, Grady Sizemore and John Lackey have joined the squad. Having Sizemore and Granderson in the same outfield will be interesting, but gets Team U.S.A. back to the fundamental ball that they want to present and win with.
I think Manager Davey Johnson made the best choice here. Granderson has the perfect attitude and work ethic for this type of tournament, and he represents U.S. baseball better than anyone.
