For all the fretting and hand-wringing Tigers’ fans have been doing over the past several days, waiting, hoping, in fact begging GM Dave Dombrowski to make a move to improve this club, he has responded.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Tigers struck a deal todayto bring in left hander Jarrod Washburn from Seattle. The Mariners will receive rookie left hander Luke French and minor leaguer Mauricio Robles.
Washburn (8-6, 2.64 ERA) will be a free agent following the season, and is represented by Scott Boras, so any thought of him signing an extension is probably just wishful thinking, but he does [...]

Tigers Acquire Washburn
McClendon Not the Problem
In case you missed it, Kurt Menshing over at Mack Avenue Tigers examined the thought that many (myself included) have had that Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon should be fired.
When you take a peek at the poor offensive statistics that the Tigers have posted as a team this year, it would easy to have the knee-jerk reaction to want to see Legendary Lloyd given his walking papers. Maybe a new voice is needed to wake these guys up. But when Kurt looked deeper at the numbers of a couple of players, what he found was that McClendon role in the steady [...]
Tigers By The Numbers: Rudy York
This is the fourth installment of Tigers By The Numbers, if you missed any of the first three, click on the By the Numbers tag on the top of the page.
This profile has been by far my most difficult to choose. There have been many Tigers to don the No. 4, and frankly speaking, I was doing my best to avoid spotlighting one particular player, though he was, at one time, one of my favorites.
Alas, the names of Adam Everett, Dale Alexander, Charlie Maxwell, Mike Laga, and Tony Phillips just didn’t excite the imagination.
Goose Goslin would have maybe been the [...]
Jack Wilson Dealt to Mariners
You can exhale now, Tigers fans. The seemingly yearly courtship between the Tigers and shortstop Jack Wilson may have officially come to an end today, as the Pirates shipped Wilson off to Seattle for catching prospect Jeff Clement.
MLB Trade Rumors reports the deal is a seven player swap, with Ian Snell joining Wilson in going to the M’s. The Pirates will receive Clement, along with shortstop Ronny Cedeno, and minor leaguers Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock.
Snell is another name that had been of interest to Tigers fans. Following a demotion to AAA, Snell has been fantastic, but had [...]
As we continue to barrel towards the non-waiver trade deadline, many, many fine folks have offered their opinions on what players might fill the Tigers’ most pressing needs.
There have been those that have trumpeted the names of Adam Dunn, Luke Scott, Aubrey Huff, Chad Tracy, and Josh Willingham. Countless words have been used to express the desire for Roy Halladay, Marco Scutaro, and Heath Bell.
Recently, J. Ellet Lambie of Eye of the Tigers broke down some trade possibilities, as well as some minor leaguers you could expect to find leaving the Tigers’ organization if any such deal were completed.
What I [...]
Get something ‘Dunn’ Dave
It is fairly easy for a guy like me to sit back, sip on my cold ice water, and pretend like I know what is best for this team. Currently Dave Dombrowski is sweating like a madman, answering phones, inquiring about trade pieces, making sure with his boss if it is okay to trade certain goods, for another company’s lost cause. The pressure is on to make his product the best in the regional market. Dave has put feelers out on the west coast, wondering if he could obtain Heath Bell. Rumor has it he is in deep talks with [...]
Sometimes the Morning After feels so good. Maybe you have no idea what happened the night before. Maybe you don’t want to remember what happened. The next morning though, you still have a smile on your face. Your body is yelling at you, you can’t see straight, and your brain probably isn’t functioning 100%. It doesn’t matter though, because last night, you got what you wanted.
That’s what this afternoon feels like. At least to one Tigers fan.
Going into this series, my hopes were low. The offense had continued to stumble. The pitching staff was doing anything it could to keep this [...]
How Sweep It Is
White Sox 3, Tigers 4 (box)
Carlos Guillen homered for the first time in almost a full calendar year and the Tigers took the nightcap against the White Sox 4-3. After the 5-1 win in the first game of the double header, the Tigers now stand two full games ahead of Chicago atop the Central division standings.
With the game tied at three in the eighth, a one out Placido Polanco single followed by a Magglio Ordonez double, then an intentional walk to Miguel Cabrera loaded the bases against Scott Linebrink. Ozzie Guillen went to the lefty Matt Thornton to face the [...]
