Wilkin Ramirez Recalled

In a surprising move, the Tigers announced today that they have recalled outfielder Wilkin Ramirez and optioned reliever Casey Fien to Toledo.  The move leaves the Tigers with an 11 man pitching staff.

Considering that the Tigers are in the midst of a stretch of of 17 games in 17 days, going a pitcher short seems an odd decision.  Also, adding Ramirez to an already crowded outfield mix raises my eyebrows.

My guess is this this the precursor to another move that will be made soon.  The word is that Jeremy Bonderman will begin his rehab assignment tonight, but I would expect he is still at least a week away from re-joining the major league club.

When another reliever is added, be it Bonderman or someone else, I would have to assume that an outfielder leaves the roster.  I doubt it would be Clete Thomas, and due to his versatility, I think Ryan Raburn sticks around, especially given Brandon Inge’s tender knees.  I feel like Lynn Henning here, but are we about to see the final exit of Magglio Ordonez?
