I like Granderson, and that's why I'm upset to see him traded away. He isn't really a star so much as a core player. Tigers fans are going to HATE this deal, and it may hurt season ticket sales badly - but from a talent standpoint I think this deal may make the Tigers a better team even as early as next year.

I just can't see them moving Cabrera. I know what this trade looks like, but it doesn't make sense to deal your only great hitter while he's still in his prime unless its a mandate from ownership. By all accounts, Illitch has made no such mandate. The trade brings in a bevy of talent and at the league minimum, but its talent that can help this year. It's not as if these players are three years away like the fire sales in Florida. A. Jackson is the only one of the group that has no ML experience, but he showed he was capable in AAA last year at age 22. The next few days will be interesting as you say, as when this deal goes official, the Tigers will have to get back down to 40 on the roster ahead of the rule 5 draft on Thursday morning. That's not a lot of time.

All in all a good trade for the Tigers. Some good young arms and a hot center field prospect. Unless another move is made, you have to wonder who's going to play center next year (please, NOT Ryan Raburn) but this can all be worked out during the spring. With the Yankees getting Grandy, it makes me wonder if the Red Sox now feel a necessity to make a counter move. With the Tigers anxious to shed payroll, you have to think that Cabrera is available at the right price. 3 or 4 good young players might shake him loose from the Tigers. The Red Sox have the resources to make this move, and from what I've read over the course of the last few days, many people in the New England area would welcome Cabrera with open arms. The next couple of days might be interesting.
