The only issue I would take with the idea that Maggs should DH ahead of Guillen is that Ordonez hasn't shown the fragility of Guillen. I agree that Guillen is probably a better defender, he certainly can cover more ground than Maggs, but how many innings can Guillen play before a long DL stint? I would argue that having Guillen's bat is more important than whatever defense you lose by using Maggs in the outfield. Obviously, Guillen could be hurt when he is DH-ing, but the odds are much greater if he has to play defense, too. With no other LH hitters in the lineup, why tempt fate?

I predict Damon ultimately gives up on the second year, and of the many suitors at that "Abreu Price" signs with the one with the best shot at the playoffs. It could be Detroit but really, I think the only rationale for signing Damon would be a lack of faith in Ryan Raburn. If, and that's a big if, he could fetch a legitimate third base prospect I would be OK with signing Damon to trade Raburn. The Tigers do have solid outfield prospects in the pipeline to replace Raburn down the road. It should be Maggs that DHs though, Guillen and Damon are both above average outfielders by the numbers.
