Agreed Chris, and the Tigers apparently felt the same way about Scherzer. It was reported somewhere that DD turned down a straight EJax for Scherzer deal, but Arizona didn't want to throw in Schlereth without getting another arm. That's how the Yankees got involved in the deal; Arizona GM Josh Byrnes called Cashman.

Strange. Almost like this guy is a Tigers season ticket holder. I expect sentimentality over Granderson (and even Jackson) from fans, but not from the national sports press. Granderson has hit his peak in performance, but his contract was backloaded. Maybe the Yankees can utilize him more effectively, now that no-one imagines that he will stop striking out or start hitting lefthanders. But in the end he's not really a big loss. I am much less concerned about replacing Granderson's OPS in the lineup than with the idea that Austin Jackson is already penciled in at leadoff. A more serious issue than what the Tigers gave up may be the murmurs about Scherzer's injury risk.
