You Can Take Part in the 2011 Community Playing Time Forecast

Every year Tom Tango, author of “The Book”, uses the “wisdom of the crowd” to forecast player playing time. The results of this survey will be used as inputs to his Marcel the Monkey (Marcels) player projections for the year.

Here’s the link.

It’s really simple to fill out, it only takes a few minutes, but it’s really helpful. Here’s what he says about fan involvement with this part of his projections:

"Who knows more about whether a pitcher will be in the starting rotation or the bullpen: an algorithm or a true fan? Who knows more about the number of games an injured Stephen Strasburg will play in 2011: an algorithm or a Nationals fan? There are certain human observation elements that are critical for forecasting. That’s where you can come in, and why you are here."

You don’t have to be a saber-head to do this, you just need to be a fan.

He stated on his blog that he wants approximately 20 entries per team at a minimum, and as of the time of this post, only 11 Tiger fans have completed the survey.
