Ryan Perry Disabled, Tigers Recall Robbie Weinhardt

The Detroit Tigers made their first roster move of the season this afternoon when they place reliever Ryan Perry on the 15-day disabled list with an infection in his eye. The move is retroactive to April 5 meaning that Perry could re-join the club on April 20.

In his place, the Tigers have recalled right hander Robbie Weinhardt from AAA Toledo. Weinhardt was a favorite to win a bullpen job in Spring Training, but was instead optioned out before camp broke. It was expected that he would join the Tigers when Phil Coke moved into the starting rotation on Saturday. This move just means he gets there in time to be announced at the home opener tomorrow.

To me, its six of one and half a dozen of the other. I like Weinhardt and I’m glad to see him back where he belongs. That it’s Perry going on the shelf doesn’t break my heart.
