Ryan Raburn Demoted to AAA

According to various twitter sources and SB nation, Ryan Raburn has been demoted to AAA. Raburn hit only .146/.209/.211, for a paltry .420 OPS in 135 plate appearances so far this season. No corresponding move has been announced thus far, and it’s difficult to guess what the Tigers are going to do in order to replace Raburn on the MLB roster. The Tigers have an available spot on the 40 man roster, so the move could come from anywhere.

Raburn was just over a week of service time short of 5 years, which means that he could have declined the assignment to Toledo. This way, he has no choice, and the Tigers can stash him at AAA until he gets his swing back.

In a corresponding move, the Tigers have purchased the contract of Omir Santos from AAA Toledo. Interesting.

Justin Henry, Niuman Romero, or Rob Brantly I would think. Not much to choose from in AAA and AA

@MCBjohnverburg Maybe a reliever.  It’s only for a couple of days until Jackson comes back.

@ChrisHannum Jackson aint coming back in a couple days. I bet you it’s more like 10 days to two weeks.

Don’t get why they’d call up Brantly.

@jgorosh Leyland doesn’t want a 2nd baseman, Brantly is one of their top prospects and one of the guys that’s actually producing a bit. Tigers like promoting their top prospects. I believe Brantly has played the outfield before, and I can’t think the Tigers are in love with what the trio of Boesch, Young and Avila have given them. Maybe we start seeing Avila DH a little with his knee issue, and Brantly getting some time in LF with Dirks in RF til Jackson gets back. I don’t know. I just know the Tigers have a history of aggressive promotion with guys they like. At best he comes up and hits a little. At worst he gets overmatched and goes back down when Jackson is ready.
