Detroit Tigers Minor League Recap 5/19/13: Tyler Collins and Aaron Westlake Homer

AAA: Toledo 4, Syracuse 3

Jose Alvarez provided the Mud Hens with a quality start going 6.2 innings with three runs allowed on seven hits, one home run, no walks, and seven strikeouts. Alvarez has a 1.98 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 54.2 total innings this season.

Brayan Villarreal retired all four batters he faced (one strikeout). Villarreal (2.25 ERA) has walked eight and struck out 16 in 12 total innings since his demotion to the minor leagues. Bruce Rondon struck out two batters and didn’t allow a base runner while recording his ninth AAA save of the season. He still has a 0.00 ERA in Toledo.

Jordan Lennerton finished the day 3-3 plus a walk, but two of his hits flew out of the yard for home runs. His sixth and seventh homers of the season.

Bryan Holaday (.294/.339/.440) went 2-4 with a pair of singles, Argenis Diaz was 2-5 with a double, Nick Castellanos was a single for four, and Quintin Berry (.185/.288/.259) was 0-4 with two strikeouts.

AA: Erie 6, Akron 4

Tyler Collins (.264/.358/.560) launched his ninth home run of the season and also drew a walk. Hernan Perez (.293/.309/.401) had two hits in five at-bats and Eugenio Suarez was 0-5 with two strikeouts.

Patrick Cooper walked three batters, gave up two home runs, and didn’t strike out a batter but still managed to escape six innings with only three runs allowed.

A-Advanced: Daytona 5, Lakeland 4

Aaron Westlake (.288/.323/.438) was 2-4 with a home run, his third of the season. Jason King and Brandon Loy each also had a base hit.

Drew VerHagen worked six innings, struck out none, walked three, and allowed four runs. Alex Burgos pitched three innings in relief and walked one, struck out one, and allowed a solo home run.

A: West Michigan 5, Bowling Green 1 (Game 1)

This was the resumption of a game that was previously suspended in the bottom of the first inning.

Danry Vasquez was 2-3 with a triple, Devon Travis had two singles and two walks, Jake Stewart was 2-5 with a triple, and Jared Reaves was 3-4.

Yorfrank Lopez (4.30 ERA) gave up one run in six innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

A: Bowling Green 8, West Michigan 0 (Game 2, 7 innings)

West Michigan ended the seven inning game with only two hits: singles each by Jared Reaves and Devon Travis.

Brennan Smith pitched 2.2 innings as the starter (of sorts) and allowed two runs to go with a walk and two strikeouts. Logan Ehlers allowed four runs on three hits and a walk in 1.2 innings of relief.
