The Detroit Tigers finished out their Spring Training home games with a 6-3 win today over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Tigers’ reliever Joba Chamberlain started the bull pen roll out today and pitched fairly well, though he did issue a walk to lefty hitter Wilson Betemit. He pitched one inning, gave up one walk and struck one out.

Tigers’ bats were hot early and often, with all but two of the starters racking up at least one hit. Alex Avila went yard with a bomb over the right field wall in the sixth off of Joel Peralta.

Notable Performances:

  • Victor Martinez, Ian Kinsler and Austin Jackson all had two hits and an RBI.
  • Ian Krol pitched an inning, gave up a hit and struck out one.
  • Phil Coke pitched an inning and two thirds, gave up one hit and struck one out.
  • All three Tampa Bay runs were scored off of Drew VerHagen, who pitched four and a third, gave up six hits(one of which was a home run), issued a walk and struck out two.

The Tigers finish out their Grapefruit League campaign against the Nats at Nationals Park tomorrow at 2:05pm.
