The Detroit Tigers look for the series sweep in Cleveland.
When We Last Met
The Detroit Tigers played the Indians last night with Justin Verlander on the mound and won in the 10th inning, after a blown save by Joe Nathan, who also ended up as the winning pitcher. Miguel Cabrera came through in the top of the 10th with an RBI double to give the Tigers a shot at the series sweep this afternoon.
Max Scherzer(8-3, 3.84 ERA), the reigning Cy Young winner, is coming off one of the worst starts of his career, a 4 inning affair with 10 hits, 10 runs and a walk against Kansas City last week. This start was especially disappointing considering the Tigers’ Ace looked to be back to his Cy Young ways in the previous start, his first career complete game.
Scherzer is 8-4 against Cleveland for his career and carries a 4.75 ERA over 100.1 innings pitched. The last time Scherzer faced the Indians was May 21, in the game that started off his rough patch. He pitched 7 innings and gave up 7 runs on12 hits and 2 walks.
Josh Tomlin(4-4, 3.86 ERA) is coming off a loss to the Los Angeles Angels in which he pitched 5.1 innings gave up 6 runs on 11 hits.
He is 2-2 against the Tigers for his career with a 5.40 ERA.
