The Tigers, coming off a three game sweep of the Indians in Cleveland, are on a four game winning streak heading into Texas. It seems that the dark days(May 18 – June 18) have finally passed, and the Detroit Tigers look to head into Arlington with momentum on their side. The Rangers are on a five game losing streak after losing two of three to Oakland and getting swept by the Angels.

When We Last Met

The last time the Tigers played the Rangers they had just been swept by the Indians, back at the beginning of the slump, and the Rangers took three of four from Detroit at Comerica Park. Robbie Ray got shelled in the first game, followed by terrible starts from Rick Porcello and Justin Verlander. The only shining moment for Detroit in that series was Anibal Sanchez‘s start in the second game.

Drew Smyly(3-6, 3.48 ERA) had a great start in his last outing, although he was hit with the loss as he received only one run of support from his offense. He went seven innings, gave up two runs on seven hits, no walks and six strikeouts in that loss to Kansas City. While the rest of the rotation struggled, Smyly wasn’t without his lumps, but hasn’t given up more than three earned runs in his four starts since May 31.

In his career against the Texas Rangers, Smyly is 0-1 with a 3.93 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched.
