The Detroit Tigers will be looking for their seventh win in a row, and to start their three-city road trip 6-0 (where have we heard that before), as they face the Texas Rangers one final time in Arlington.

When We Last Met

The Tigers’ got the bats going early and often and six of their 11 hits last night went for extra bases. This included two doubles and two homers from the Super Martinez Brothers of Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez. The duo set the pace and Detroit was able to hold off a comeback-minded Rangers team to hold on for an 8-6 win on Wednesday night.

Rick Porcello (9-4, 3.76) returns to the mound after putting together two very solid starts, including his last outing where he scattered six hits and shutout the Cleveland Indians through six innings of a 6-4 Tigers’ win. Porcello will be looking for a bit of redemption against the Rangers, the team that beat him up for his worst loss of the year. Back on May 24, in the middle of a series where the banged up Rangers inexplicably destroyed Tigers’ pitching, Porcello allowed seven earned runs (eight runs total) and 12 hits in the 12-2 Detroit defeat at Comerica Park.

Thankfully, the Tigers miss ace Yu Darvish, so the Rangers will send rookie Nick Martinez (1-4, 4.22) to the mound in the series finale. Martinez has been a bit of a bright spot for the most part for Texas. He had a rough outing a couple of games ago, in which he allowed eight earned runs to Cleveland, but has been stellar other than that. This included being the winning pitcher the day of the 12-2 bombing of Porcello. Martinez allowed an early run in that game, but shut the door the rest of the way, allowing eight hits in six innings of work. He hasn’t won a game since that May 24 game, going 0-3 in five starts.
