When We Last Met

The Tigers and Dodgers met up last night with Justin Verlander and Hyun-Jin Ryu facing off and while Verlander had an undoubtedly awful, five run first inning, hit batting teammates lifted him up by demolishing Dodgers pitching by scoring 14 unanswered runs for a 14-5 victory.

Victor Martinez is out of the lineup for another game with a sore side and Miguel Cabrera has been given the afternoon off.

Max Scherzer(10-3, 3.47 ERA) won his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays, pitching eight innings, and giving up only one run on two hits with seven strikeouts, in what was easily his best start since his complete game. Scherzer struggled along with the rest of the Tigers staff during the latter part of May and beginning of June, but with his recent success against Tampa, and also against Houston and Cleveland, the reigning Cy Young winner appears to be back on track.

Scherzer is 1-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 41.2 innings against the Dodgers in his career.

Zack Greinke(11-4, 2.66 ERA) is coming off an eight inning outing against Colorado in which he gave up two runs on nine hits.

Greinke is 13-6 with a 2.74 ERA against Detroit in his career.
