Victor Martinez is again missing from tonight’s starting lineup.

When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers took the second straight game from the Kansas City Royals last night, extending their winning streak to four games, though it was a decidedly different affair than the night before. Anibal Sanchez was lights out, as he has been in nearly every start this season, and the bullpen was just barely good enough to eek out a 2-1 victory.

Rick Porcello(11-5, 3.53 ERA) takes the mound after a tough loss to Tampa Bay in his last start in which he went 5.2 innings and gave up 7 runs on 11 hits. Porcello gave up two long balls in that outing, by far his worst start in recent memory. Rick seemed to be unable to keep the ball down in the zone, he looks to correct this in tonight’s start.

Porcello is 7-3 with a 4.41 ERA in 96 innings pitched. He faced Kansas City last on May 2nd and got the win after pitching 7 innings and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.

James Shields(9-4, 3.71 ERA) is coming off a win against his former team the Tampa Bay Rays in which he went 7 innings and gave up three hits but did not allow a run. Shields last faced Detroit in May, when he pitched 6.1 innings, gave up 12 hits and 8 runs(7 earned).

Shields is 6-4 in his career against the Detroit Tigers with a 4.49 ERA in 104.1 innings pitched .
