When We Last Met
The Tigers took two of three from the Angels in Detroit in mid-April, getting beaten up in the first meeting, but recovering to take the final two games. Rick Porcello pitched a gem and got some redemption from the game in 2013 he started against the Angels. You know the one.
Starting Pitching
Max Scherzer(11-3, 3.34 ERA) was not the pitcher of record in his last start, a loss to the Cleveland Indians. He pitched 5.2 innings, gave up 6 hits and an astonishing 4 walks while allowing 2 runs. It was also noted that Scherzer had some discomfort in his arm, but he shot down any idea that it was a concern after the game.
Scherzer is 3-1 with a 2.16 ERA in 33.1 innings pitched in his career against the Angels.
Garrett Richards(11-2, 2.47 ERA) was also not the pitcher of record in his last start against the Mariners, though he pitched 8 innings and gave up only 1 run on 3 hits and a walk. Richards’ numbers are fantastic and he’s been lights out for the majority of the season, allowing more than 3 runs only twice.
Richards is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA against the Tigers in 20 innings over his career.
