When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers dropped the final game of their series with the Tampa Bay Rays in a spectacularly frustrating manner, losing 1-0 on a complete game shutout one-hitter by starter David Price. The only run scored was unearned, and came after a terrible throw by short stop Eugenio Suarez. The Tigers did take two of three from the Rays at the Trop, but that loss was a heartbreaker.

Pitching Matchup

Robbie Ray(1-3, 5.33 ERA) last started against Seattle and was beat up by the Mariners lineup. He pitched five innings, giving up four runs(three earned) on seven hits and two walks. He struck out one batter. Ray has been hot and cold this year;  first two starts and a bullpen appearance against Boston he yielded only one run on ten hits and two walks, while tallying eight strikeouts. He faltered in his next three outings, but is definitely showing potential. One of those inital starts came against the Twins, and Ray pitched six shutout innings giving up only four hits.

Tommy Milone(6-4, 3.99 ERA) has struggled since being traded to the Twins from Oakland. In his last outing he lasted only one and a third innings and gave up seven runs(six earned) on four hits and two walks to the Kansas City Royals. Milone hashad lots of success against the Tigers in his career, with a 3-0 record and a 2.31 ERA in 23.1 innings.
