When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers stopped their slide last night with a win against the Twins in the night game of the day-night double header. Though Tigers’ pitching still gave up six runs, including a ninth inning run to cut the Tigers’ lead to two, given up by Joe Nathan. Justin Verlander had issues with his slider, but overall looked to have better control of his fastball.

Pitching Matchup

Max Scherzer(14-4, 3.07 ERA) had one of his shakiest starts of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays in his last outing, but still managed to go seven innings, even giving up four runs on four hits and three walks. Last outing aside, Scherzer has dominated all season giving the Tigers a legitimate shot at winning every time he’s on the mound, even when he doesn’t have his best stuff. He is 7-2 with a 4.43 ERA in his career.

Kyle Gibson(11-9, 4.13 ERA) went five and a third innings in his last start against Cleveland, giving up five runs on eight hits and one walk. He is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA against the Detroit Tigers in his career.
