Happy New Year, Detroit Tigers fans!

More from Motor City Bengals

We’ve gone through nearly three straight months without baseball and now we have just two more months without it and one more month of practice baseball until we reach the season! So we are at the unofficial halfway point of the off-season.

First up we take a look at five prospects that could provide a lift for the Tigers in 2015.

Next while we have been wrapped up in Detroit on how the Tigers may be the inevitable landing spot of Max Scherzer, other clubs think they may have a chance. We present accounts from the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. Of all of these, I think St. Louis has a decent shot. In fact since even before the season was over I viewed the Cardinals as a darkhorse to land Max.

While they don’t usually throw money out that much, Scherzer is from Missouri and grew up a fan of the Red Birds, which makes a marriage between the two very intriguing.

Jon Heyman lists St. Louis Cardinals as a possibility for Max Scherzer – Daniel Solzman, RedBird Rants

"The St. Louis native, represented by agent Scott Boras, is one of the biggest names still available on the market and has yet to sign with a team. It’s doubtful that Scherzer signs with anyone before 2014 comes to an end but Heyman has some ideas where he could land.I just can’t see Scherzer landing with the Cardinals. Would I love to see the former Cy Young Award winner in the Cardinals rotation? I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t. Nobody would pass on Scherzer joining their favorite team’s rotation but money is where I draw the line. Scherzer turned down a contract extension well north of $100 million with the Detroit Tigers so there’s no reason to think he would come cheap and sign for a hometown discount."

Could the Texas Rangers pursue Max Scherzer – Lee Stitzel, Nolan Writin

"The 2014-2015 offseason is shaping up to a remarkably quiet one for the Texas Rangers. While this is understandable, fans should keep an eye out for Texas to make a big move. It remains a possibility that the Rangers could make a run at landing Max Scherzer."

MLB Free Agency: Would Max Scherzer Seriously Sign With The Astros? – Hayden Kane, FanSided

"Here’s the thing though: we all might overestimate the importance of being the final piece on a contender when we assume we know what free agents are thinking. If the Astros were willing to pay more, maybe they could sell Scherzer on the other benefits of signing with them, even if those benefits do not include World Series contention.Maybe the dude just wants to get paid and be comfortable, and maybe the Astros can meet those interests.Would Max Scherzer seriously sign with the Astros? If nothing else, we should all at least know better than to rule it out."
