Game Preview

The Detroit Tigers will play its second of three split squad games this spring on Saturday. After losing both split squad games on Thursday, Detroit is hoping to build off of its success on Friday when the Tigers beat Atlanta, 12-2.

When We Last Met

The Tigers have already faced the Phillies twice this week, splitting the two meetings, 6-0, on Tuesday and, 6-5, on Thursday. Detroit received great starts from Alfredo Simon and Justin Verlander on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Both starters threw three innings and did not give up a run, but on Thursday, Joe Nathan allowed six runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Those were the only runs the Tigers have allowed to the Phillies in 18 frames.

This is the first time Detroit will face the New York Yankees this spring. The Tigers went 3-5 last season versus the Yankees.

Detroit Tigers Lineup

Anibal Sanchez will take the mound at home against the Phillies. He has allowed two runs in 4.1 innings over two outings this spring. Right-handed pitcher Paul Clemens is going to start for the Phillies.

24-year-old Kyle Lobstein is on the mound for the Tigers in Tampa versus the Yankees while Michael Pineda is New York’s projected starter.
