The Detroit Tigers will sadly not finish the 2015 season undefeated, but they can get back in the win column when they take on A.J. Burnett and the Pirates on Tuesday.

When We Last Met

The Tigers were unable to spoil the Pirates home opener on Monday as Gerrit Cole pitched a gem, neutralizing the Tigers offense to just one run in six plus innings of work. Detroit was able to score three runs in the ninth off Pirates closer Mark Melancon, but Pittsburgh held on for the, 5-4, victory.

Anibal Sanchez allowed five runs in 6 1/3 innings with four of those five runs coming on home runs.

Pitching Matchup

Detroit will start right-hander Shane Greene, who was excellent in his first start last Thursday in rain-soaked Detroit. Greene threw eight innings and allowed just one unearned run on four hits and one walk. He also struck out five.

Veteran A.J. Burnett will be on the hill for the Pirates. He pitched five shutout innings in Cincinnati last week before allowing a home run to Joey Votto in the sixth. Burnett exited after 5 1/3, allowing two runs on four hits, one walk and striking out seven. He received a no decision.
