Game Preview

The Detroit Tigers will make their second trip to the west coast, and Tigers fans hope this trip goes better than the first one. Detroit went 2-5 in Oakland and Los Angeles in late May.

It’s been a tough season for the Seattle Mariners, but at least they will get starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma back from the disabled list on Monday. He was 0-1 with a 6.61 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in three starts before landing on the disabled list after his outing on April 20.

When We Last Met

This will be the first time this season the two teams will meet, but the Detroit Tigers were not successful last year against the Mariners. Detroit was 2-4, including 1-2 on the road, versus Seattle in 2014.

Pitching Matchup

Tigers fans are not only hoping Detroit does better in Seattle this year, but fans are also praying right-hander Alfredo Simon gets back on track. He has allowed 18 runs and 29 hits in his last 14 2/3 innings over three starts. Simon will have the ball on Monday.

For the season, Simon is 7-5 with a 3.94 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings.

As previously mentioned, Iwakuma will make his return to the field with his first start since the middle of April. In three career starts against Detroit, he is 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. Last season, though, Iwakuma allowed five runs in six innings versus the Tigers.
