When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers came back to win in dramatic fashion in the series opener on Monday against the Seattle Mariners. Second baseman Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer in the eighth to lift Detroit to a, 5-4, victory.

The Tigers are 3-1 versus the Mariners this season.

Pitching Matchup

Right-hander Shane Greene will take the hill for the Tigers on Tuesday. Greene allowed just one earned run in his first 23 innings this season, but he has been horrible ever since. Over his last 11 starts, the 26-year-old is 1-7 with a 9.06 ERA and .341 batting average against.

Greene spent most of June and the beginning of July at Triple-A Toledo working on his stuff. He returned on July 12 in Minnesota didn’t have much success. Greene allowed seven runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 frames.

22-year-old Taijuan Walker is going to start for the Mariners. Like Greene, Walker has struggled lately. He allowed six earned runs in five innings in his last start before the All-Star break versus the Los Angeles Angels.

In the start prior to that, Walker allowed five runs, including three home runs, in six frames versus the Tigers.

It could be a very long night for the pitchers.
