When We Last Met

For the second straight game in Baltimore, the Tigers stormed out to a huge, seemingly insurmountable lead and then the bullpen got involved. Unlike Thursday, however, the Orioles took the lead and did not look back, coming back from 6-0 down to win 8-7.

Pitching Matchup

With David Price now history, it is never more important that Anibal Sanchez (10-8, 4.61) continues is upward trend this season. He was shaky in his last outing although he minimized the damage to three runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings but was the losing pitcher in a 10-8 Tampa Bay victory on Monday. This snapped a stretch in which Sanchez was 7-0 in eight starts. One of those victories came when he allowed two runs on eight hits in a 7-3 win over Baltimore on July 17.

Kevin Gausman (1-2, 4.20) was briefly rumored to become a Tiger during Friday’s trading deadline when the Orioles expressed interest in Yoenis Cespedes, who went to the New York Mets. Because of the barren Baltimore farm system, it was believed a major leaguer would be needed. Alas Gausman is still an O and will face the Tigers on Saturday night. He was brilliant in his last outing, shutting out the Atlanta Braves in 7.2 innings on Monday, but picked up a no-decision in the 2-1 Orioles win. He did not face the Tigers in Detroit and is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two career starts against them.
