It was 2011 all over again for the Detroit Tigers Wednesday Night at Comerica Park, as Justin Verlander looked like his old self once again, as he threw a one-hit shutout in a 5-0 win against the Angels.

Must see JV has been the lone bright spot for the Tigers of late, and again proved doubters wrong with his performance on Wednesday. Taking a no-hit bid into the ninth inning, he gave up his only hit to Chris Iannetta with one out as he doubled a fastball off the chalk for the only hit for the Angels.

Verlander was locating perfectly all night, and finally got his second win of the season after a month of exceptional work. His final line for the night was 9 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K’s. At one point he struck out five consecutive batters.

The losing pitcher for Los Angeles was Hector Santiago, who has had about as bad as a month for pitcher as possible. He now goes to 7-8 on the year, after getting worked by the Tigers.

J.D. Martinez hit another home run, along with Miguel Cabrera and Nick Castellanos, as Castellanos continues to prove that he deserves to be an every day player in the organization, showing the power and consistency he lacked before the All-Star break.

On Thursday the Tigers square off again against the Angels, as newly acquired left Randy Wolf faces off against call-up Matt Shoemaker. The first pitch is exptected for 1:08 EST at Comerica Park.
