When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers have gone 1-7 in their last eight games and have fallen deeper into the depths of the AL Central cellar. If the struggles continue, likely against the high powered Toronto Blue Jays’ team, they will soon fall to the depth of the American League. Last night, Matt Boyd did all he could do to keep his team in the game, but ended up taking the loss on many long balls by his former teammates, losing 5-3.

Pitching Matchup

Buck Farmer (0-2, 7.80) likely had his best start of his young career, holding the Cincinnati Reds hitless through four innings, but he was roughed up a bit in the fifth and the Reds started an epic rally in the fifth inning. Brad Ausmus gave him a quick hook and the bullpen proceeded to turn a 5-3 advantage into a 10-5 deficit with an incredible 10-run inning. All we can do is wish Buck good luck against this potent Toronto lineup.

Drew Hutchison (12-2, 5.06) is a unique case in the Blue Jays’ rotation. He has won 12 games but is boasting an ERA over 5. It matters not when you have that offense as Toronto has put up an average of 6.14 runs in his previous seven starts (4-0, 4.71 ERA). The start previous to this stretch was the last time Hutchinson lost when he was rocked for seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 4.2 innings in a 8-6 loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park on July 3.
