When We Last Met

It took more than five hours, but the Detroit Tigers were able to beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-7 on a Rajai Davis walk-off sacrifice fly in the 13th inning. The Tigers now have a chance at sweeping a three-game series for the first time since the first week of the 2015 season when they swept a series from the Indians in Cleveland.

Pitching Matchup

Kyle Lobstein (3-6, 5.02) will give it another go for the Detroit Tigers after a tough effort in his first start since May. Facing the Cleveland Indians last Friday, he allowed six runs on eight hits and lasted just 4.1 innings. It was Lobstein’s first start since May 23 after arm issues shelved him for much of the season and he struggled to record outs in Toledo before getting the call-up.  A draft pick of the Tampa Bay Rays, this will be the first time that he faces that organization.

Jake Odorizzi (6-8, 3.35) was rocked in his last game, allowing just three hits, but each of those hits were homers and he ended up allowing five earned runs in 6.2 innings of an 5-2 loss to the New York Yankees. He has allowed nine earned runs over his last two games, but was brilliant the first time he faced the Tigers this year. In picking up the 10-2 win on July 28, he limited Detroit to one run on six hits.
