Detroit Tigers players will try to get back in the win column on Monday as they open up a series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Justin Verlander will take the hill for the Tigers.

Detroit Tigers fans will be hoping for better from the Tigers after the team dropped two of three games in Oakland against the Athletics.

Despite losing the series against the A’s, Detroit has the chance to get on a roll again versus the Angels. Entering Monday, the Halos sit at just 22-28. Anaheim’s roster has been decimated by injuries so far as Geovany Soto, Andrelton Simmons, Garrett Richards, C.J. Wilson, Huston Street, Daniel Nava, Cory Rasmus and Craig Gentry are all sidelined.

As it stands, only Yunel Escobar, Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun are the only Anaheim hitters with batting averages above .290. Albert Pujols is still in the lineup, but has just a .229 batting average.

The rest of the Angels’ active roster is littered with light-hitting options like Johnny Giavotella, Gregorio Petit, Cliff Pennington and Rafael Ortega. In other words, the Tigers pitching could be in for a strong series.

  5. Nick Castellanos, 3B
