In 2016, the Detroit Tigers ticket office offered an outstanding deal on regular season home game tickets.

That outstanding Detroit Tigers tickets deal was quietly posted on the team’s website for April 2017.

This deal is what the Tigers call the Digital Ballpark Pass. It is too good to pass up.

Last year, this package offered in several months. And, as someone who used it in July, August, and September, I can honestly say that it is worth every penny.

The April pass is for eight home games at Comerica Park in April and costs $49 per ticket. No, it is not $49 for each home game. It is only $49 for all 8 of them. When you buy the digital pass, you get into Comerica Park eight times.

Let’s say you buy two tickets at $49 a piece. Your total would be $98. Of course, there is a processing fee; it’s $7. So, your total is $105 for two tickets. That breaks down to $15 per game for two people to get into Comerica Park to see every game. Except for the Opening Day game. That’s not bad. Not bad at all.

What’s fun about the digital pass is where you get to sit. You don’t know until you get into the park. The digital pass gets you in and you automatically get “Standing Room” tickets – so you can stand anywhere that is permitted inside of the park. If you want to stand between the dugouts, you can (except where standing is prohibited in a few sections).

Along with the opportunity to stand in the lower bowl, you also get a pair of seats. They will not be in prime locations between the dugouts or in the covered areas of the park. But, the seats will not be bad. In 2016, nearly all of my digital pass seats were in the lower bowl – only two games were not, so I just stood for those games. The majority of the seats were in sections 139, 116, or 101 – here’s the link for the seating map. Not bad for less than $10 per ticket.

There are some limitations with these tickets. First, you cannot resell them on the secondary market. You do not get individual tickets for the games. The pass is only available on the Ballpark App and it is password protected. To get into the park, you must use a smartphone and show the app at the gate. The Ballpark App will tell you where your seats are about 90 minutes before the game begins. You also cannot trade in your seats at the ticket counter.

Even though there are limitations with resale, there are no limitations on your experiences when you get into the park. You get to watch all of your favorite players like Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander, and Ian Kinsler. You can go down to the dugouts and hound the players for autographs. If you catch a home run ball from Justin Upton or J.D. Martinez, you get to keep it.  You can buy all the food and Tigers gear you want. And, if there is a promotional giveaway (and you get in line soon enough), you get the giveaway, too. I even used my Comerica Park bank card to get into the park 30 minutes early in 2016.

If you do want to get better seats at Comerica Park, you can. Once you get into the park, you can use the Ballpark App upgrade option. This happens about 60 minutes before the game begins. If there are extra seats available in prime locations, the Ballpark App will list them for sale. These extra seats do come with a fee, but it is usually $25 or less per seat. The seats are usually in the On Deck Circle, the Tiger Den, or the Rightfield Balcony. I’ve upgraded with the Ballpark App and the seats have been fabulous (except for the Rightfield Balcony seats that were right behind the foul pole).

If you can get to Comerica Park in April and you have yet to purchase tickets, I highly recommend the April Ballpark Digital Pass. I’ve got mine and I’m highly anticipating buying one in May, June, July, August, and September!
