It was announced last night that Tigers reliever Zach Miner will miss the remainder of the season (and well into next season) thanks to a partial ligament tear in his right elbow.
The right hander will undergo Ligament Replacement surgery on Friday after consulting with famed surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum. The surgery, made famous by former Yankee Tommy John, who was the first to successfully return from this operation, will require a minimum of 9-12 months before Miner can return to a mound.
In all likelihood, this is the last we, as Tigers fans, will hear of Miner. He is making $950,000 this season [...]

Tigers Injury Updates
As the Tigers close up shop in Lakeland for another year, just hours away from a plane trip to Milwaukee where they’ll play two exhibition games this weekend, there are some Tigers on the mend.
The Free Press’ John Lowe has the scoop on a few of them. According to Lowe, Ryan Raburn came down with the flu and will not travel with the team to Milwaukee, he’ll catch a separate flight later in the day so an not to spread his illness throughout the team. Nevermind the commercial passengers on his flight, I guess.
Gerald Laird has missed the passed three [...]
Clarity on Seay’s Injury
Basically, this is worst-case scenario for the Tigers and for left hander Bobby Seay. Seay spoke with MLB.com’s Jason Beck in Lakeland this morning and finally gave word on the official diagnosis concerning his balky left shoulder: torn rotator cuff.
Beck says the injury is a grade 2 tear that nearly qualified as a grade 3, the worst possible tear. Seay was given his options by Dr. James Andrews on Thursday. Surgery, he was told, should be a last resort, as pitchers trying to come back from such a procedure rarely return effectively. In short, this is an injury that frequently [...]
Tigers Trim Roster
It’s a busy morning in Lakeland today as the Tigers have announced, as expected, another round of roster cuts. Via the Tigers official twitter feed, the team has assigned five players to minor league camp, and placed two more on the disabled list. The moves leave 32 active players in camp.
As expected, relievers Bobby Seay and Zach Miner were both placed on the 15-day disabled list and neither will be available for Opening Day. Seay is scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews about his ailing left shoulder and could be out for a very long time. Miner has lingering [...]
The Tigers won’t make any roster cuts today, but you can expect to see another round of cuts tomorrow morning. I doubt they will be the final cuts, but several guys will head to minor league camp. Final cuts will likely come next Wednesday or Thursday, ahead of the final two games of the exhibition season, played in Milwaukee versus the Brewers.
He wasn’t yet worried about it, but last night’s first inning two-run double showed that Adam Everett might be breaking out of a long spring training slump. Everett’s never going to hit much anyway, but after starting just 1 [...]
Bad news out of Lakeland today when Bobby Seay came up lame in his latest attempt to re-join the ranks of healthy arms in camp. The Tigers left hander has been sidelined for most of camp with lingering shoulder soreness. After resting for a couple weeks, Seay tried throwing a bullpen today but had to cut it short. “The feeling I have in my arm is nothing I’ve ever felt before,” he said. “It just lingers and lingers. I’m nowhere near the pitcher I need to be.”
According the the report filed by Tom Gage, the next step is for Seay [...]
The weekend passed and nothing but silence on the Johnny Damon front. I have grown awfully tired of speculating about whether or not he will sign with Detroit. I still think it will happen, but I’m not planning on writing about it anymore until a decision is made.
And speaking of decisions, one area that decisions will have to be made is in the bullpen, where the Tigers are headed to camp with no fewer than five left handed relief pitchers.
Both of last year’s incumbents are back in Bobby Seay and Fu-Te Ni. In addition, Dave Dombrowski signed free agent Brad Thomas to [...]
The Tigers today annouced the signing of closer Jose Valverde to a two-year contract with a club option for a third. The move puts the team at 41 players on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding move must be made soon.
Mark Anderson of TigsTown noted in a tweet to MLB.com’s Jason Beck that he’s hearing Don Kelly would likely be the guy DFA’d.
I hope this isn’t the case.
There is an argument to be made that Kelly is the weakest link on the roster, but he also has several points in his favor. Namely, he hits left handed and can play [...]
