Former Tigers Still Chasing the Dream

AUTHOR: John Parent | IN: 2009-10 Hot Stove, History | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

While I was pouring over MLB Trade Rumors this morning, I found a link to a blog called Monozygotic, which is written by twin brothers, obviously. They put together a comprehensive list of all non-roster invitees for the 2010 Spring Training camps of each team. It is impressive work.
Non-roster invitees are always an interesting group. There are young players that are getting their first looks from the major league staff, journeymen still trying to establish themselves as big league talents, and always a few veterans trying to catch on with yet another team, looking for one last season in the sun.

Winter Meeting Day One Recap

AUTHOR: John Parent | IN: 2009-10 Hot Stove, Roster Moves, Roster Rumblings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just in case you were having trouble keeping up with all those twitter updates (I was), you can find out what happened in Tiger baseball here.  Stay tuned, though, the winter meetings will be here all week.

First, we learned the Tigers had made a flurry on minor moves.  They announced the trade of LHP Clay Rapada to the Rangers.  In return, the Tigers will receive some sort of compensation, be it a player to be named later or cash considerations.  That move cleared a 40-man roster spot for LHP Brad Thomas who pitched the past two seasons in Korea.  In conjunction with [...]

Let the Fun Begin

AUTHOR: John Parent | IN: 2009-10 Hot Stove, Roster Moves, Roster Rumblings | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Bill Ferris is all over the winter meetings this week so be sure to head over to the Detroit Tigers Weblog to stay updated.  I will do my best to keep up and offer my thoughts on any moves the Tigers make during the next few days.

To get the party started, the Tigers announced today (via twitter) the signing of lefty reliever Brad Thomas, who Dave Dombrowski is viewing as a major league option out of the bullpen.  Thomas pitched the past two seasons in Korea.  To make room for Thomas, the Tigers traded LHP Clay Rapada to the Texas [...]

Clay Rapada Added to Roster

AUTHOR: John Parent | IN: 2009 Season, Roster Moves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Bobby Seay was scheduled for an MRI today following two unsuccessful outings over the past two day.  Gerald Laird summoned trainer Kevin Rand to take a look at Seay after Laird noticed something in Seay’s follow through that looked amiss.

With the Tigers in the midst of a late-season push for the playoffs, left handed reliever Clay Rapada has been added to the active roster and will be uniform tonight.  Rapada has made two appearances with the Tigers this season, but has not pitched since September 4, with the Toledo MudHens.

Given Rapada’s rust and the fact that he was not recalled [...]

Afternoon Delight: Wilson Reaction, Trade Thames? and Spring Training Schedule

AUTHOR: Joe Dexter | IN: Tiger Notes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Let’s just say that I am happy that the Tigers are dening the reports that they have acquired Jack Wilson. The Pirate shortstop was according to a report shipped out of the Steel City, right into the motor city. The same writer, Dan Graziano stated that the Tigers have denied the reports. He still believes that a deal could be put in place by the end of the weekend.
I just pray that it wont.
The same day that Edgar Renteria finally left us for good, the rumors that have haunted me the last few weeks are coming to life. It’s not [...]
