Detroit 3, Chicago 2 (box)
Rick Porcello took the mound for the Tigers today, but recent history wasn’t on his side. In three previous starts this year, Rick was 0-3 with an 11.66 ERA. On the other side, Edwin Jackson came in to the game with a 2-0 record and a 2.45 ERA in two starts against the Tigers this season. Neither pitcher would factor into the decision tonight, however.
When Porcello’s at his best, he’s getting ground balls, and that’s what happened tonight. He recorded thirteen ground ball outs, and just four fly ball outs. I think we would [...]

Chicago 4, Detroit 1 (box)
It was a homecoming of sorts last night at Comerica Park. Former Tiger Edwin Jackson made his first start with his latest team, the White Sox, and returned to Detroit as a visitor for the second time since being traded away in the offseason.
Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge also came home, returning to the Tigers after a two week stay on the disabled list, and Jhonny Peralta returned to his original position and played shortstop for Detroit.
There were warm, fuzzy feelings all over the stadium. At least until the game started.

The Tigers announced today that they have activated third baseman Brandon Inge from the 15-day disabled list. Inge spent exactly 15 days on the DL, and comes back two full weeks ahead of the original timetable for his broken hand.
He played in one rehab game with West Michigan before being activated. Inge is listed in the starting lineup this evening batting seventh and playing third base.
In order to make room for Inge, the Tigers placed SS Danny Worth on the 15-day DL with a bruised heel. Jason Beck says Worth injured the heel over the weekend in Boston, [...]
(note: This is a guest post offered up by Venom Strikes site lead Scott Allen. Since we don’t get to see many National League teams in Detroit, Scott has been gracious enough to give us an introduction to the Arizona Diamondbacks. To complete the trade, we sent a Tigers introduction to Scott.)

Pitching Probables:
Friday – Dontrelle Wills, 2-2, 4.39 ERA. (1-0, 1.80 in Arizona). The reunion tour in Detroit continues for former Tigers. Only two weeks removed from leaving Detroit, Willis has has a couple of starts in Arizona. He’s been wild, to [...]
What Happens Next
Now that the Big Deal is all but official, the Tigers are going to be faced with a slew of questions as to what their next course of action will be. There is an impending roster crunch as two player will have to be removed from the 40-man to get under the limit. The Tigers are said to still be in the market for a veteran reliever, as well.
As for the trade, I ran through a brief analysis yesterday, but I wanted to mention one more thing. Yes, this trade was made with cost-cutting in mind. But no, it was [...]
The Deal is Done… Sort of
You know that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach just as the rollercoaster reaches its apex and just before you go plummeting back down? That’s exactly the feeling I have as I write this post. It’s a feeling of tremendous excitement and tremendous terror.
There are so many sources to link to in writing this post so instead I will just point you all over to MLBTR where they have a tidy little updated post on the trade. All we are awaiting is an approval of medical records, which likely won’t happen until tomorrow. Other than that, it’s [...]
Winter Meeting Day One Recap
Just in case you were having trouble keeping up with all those twitter updates (I was), you can find out what happened in Tiger baseball here. Stay tuned, though, the winter meetings will be here all week.
First, we learned the Tigers had made a flurry on minor moves. They announced the trade of LHP Clay Rapada to the Rangers. In return, the Tigers will receive some sort of compensation, be it a player to be named later or cash considerations. That move cleared a 40-man roster spot for LHP Brad Thomas who pitched the past two seasons in Korea. In conjunction with [...]
Tigers Considering Major Changes
They are not calling it a fire sale. Let’s get that out of the way first. Dave Dombrowski has conducted fire sales before, most notably following the 1997 championship season with the Florida Marlins. This, he says, is not a fire sale.
The GM meetings don’t usually bring much noise, and there were no major moves made by the Tigers during this round of meeting which wrapped up last night in Chicago. But what we learned may give us a deep insight into the immediate and long-term future of the Detroit franchise.
News first broke Tuesday that the Tigers were at least [...]
