Eric Munson

Year drafted: 1999

Selected: 3rd overall

-Selected over players such as Alex Rios and Barry Zito

After being drafted by the Tigers, Munson made appearances in 2000, 2001, and 2002; all as a September call up. He played over 90 games for Detroit in both 2003 and 2004, but players such as Brandon Inge and Dmitri Young began to flood in and positions were limited; so Munson was the odd-man out.

Munson played for the then Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2005, appearing in 11 games. and after  two semi-successful seasons with the Houston Astros (backing up catcher Brad Ausmus in 2006), Munson was DFA’d. He appeared in one more Major League game in 2009 for the Oakland Athletics before signing with the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League in 2010.

Munson is currently 36 years old and plays for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
