UPDATE: The deal appears to be done:

MCB co-editor Dave Holcomb posted an article just about an hour ago saying how the Los Angeles Dodgers were the clear front-runner for the services of the Detroit Tigers’ ace pitcher David Price. But as is par for the course nearing the trading deadline, another team is making a huge push and, according to one report, is “closing in on” Price.

The Blue Jays were likely the second-highest team mentioned related to Price along with the favorites in the Dodgers and some (so far) also-rans, the San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros and New York Yankees. So what could the Tigers be seeing in return from the Blue Jays that would push them over the Dodgers and others?

Daniel Norris is the #18 best prospect according to Baseball America prior to 2015. He has just 10 games at the major league level with a 3.86 ERA and 1.500 WHIP. He has spent much of the last two seasons in AAA Buffalo where he is sporting a 4.27 ERA but has struck out 78 in 90 innings and walked just 41 in 16 games there this season.

Matt Boyd has been lit up in the majors in very limited action but has been sharp at Triple-A this year, posting a 2.77 ERA and 0.974 WHIP. He was the 29th best prospect in the majors according to BA.

Anthony Alford would be the latest Toronto centerfielder to come to Detroit (eventually), following in the footsteps of Rajai Davis and Anthony Gose. He was drafted in the 3rd round two years ago and is at the Blue Jays’ high single-A affiliate, hitting .311 with an OPS of .818. Of course the rumored pieces and teams could change at a moment’s notice. So stay tuned to MCB for updates throughout the day.
