Detroit Tigers: Exploring Michael Fulmer Trade Scenarios
By Andy Patton
If the Yankees weren’t willing to part with superstar Gleyber Torres before the season, they certainly aren’t going to now. The 21-year-old has a real chance to make the All-Star team in his rookie season, as he is slashing .294/.350/.555 with 15 home runs in 63 games. No Torres likely means no deal – although Miguel Andujar and Estevan Florial combined could get Detroit’s attention.
Andujar is hitting .282 with 12 home runs on the season as New York’s primary third baseman. The Tigers could shift either Andujar or Candelario over to first base, giving them another outstanding infielder for the future.
Florial is on the disabled list right now, which would throw a pretty big wrench in this deal. New York’s number one prospect, Florial was hitting .246 at High-A with a stellar 13.5% walk rate. Florial is a true five-tool outfielder, and at just 20 years old he has the potential to develop into a legitimate superstar.
Andujar, Florial and infielder Tyler Wade would likely get Detroit’s attention – particularly if Florial was healthy. That’s a lot of what-ifs however, and at the end of the day the Yankees will likely push some of these players to the Mets to try to acquire Jacob deGrom, not Fulmer.
The Dodgers and Yankees are the two most likely trade partners, and neither of them seem overtly likely to make a push for Fulmer. There is one more dark horse contender.
