Red Sox vs. Tigers prediction and odds for Thursday, April 6 (Trust Detroit in home opener)

The Tigers start its season at Comerica Park after six games on the road against American League elite in the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston Astros as they are set to face the Boston Red Sox.

Detroit looked far more competitive against the defending World Series champs, winning two of three, and now look to keep the momentum rolling in front of the home crowd on Thursday afternoon with Spencer Turnbull set to face Chris Sale, who struggled to find his velocity in his first start of the season.

The Tigers are only hitting .185 through six games, but I will attribute part of that to a treacherous schedule that included two of the best pitching staffs in baseball. Now they return home to face Chris Sale, who couldn't pitch more than three innings in his first start.

I think Detroit is due for some better results at the plate against Sale, who is trending in the wrong direction to start 2023, but I also think we see the Red Sox lineup take a step back now that its leaving the hitter friendly Fenway Park.

The BoSox will face Turnbull, who got knocked around in his first start against the Rays, allowing seven earned runs in 2 1/3 innings, but I believe that this Boston lineup is playing well above its head after the ball was flying in Boston over the past week.

The Red Sox, against a far easier schedule, also started 2-4, and I believe the Tigers continue to play competitive baseball for the time being. I believe the Red Sox are being priced as favorites due to the name brand of Sale, but frankly, there's not much separating these two clubs.
