The Detroit Tigers have been working back promising lefty Tarik Skubal back into the starting rotation, making two starts ahead of the All-Star break. Can he get going on Tuesday in hopes of making a big second half push?
Boh the Tigers and Kansas City Royals are in the midst of rebuilds, but will hope that young pitchers can find their footing in the second half of the season. On Tuesday, two lefties take the mound with Skubal toeing the rubber for Detroit while Kansas City counters with Daniel Lynch of the Royals.
How should we target the over/under in this one? First, let's take a look at the odds:
Tigers vs. Royals odds, run line and total
Tigers vs. Royals prediction and pick
In a battle of two lefty starters, there's no doubt that the pitcher's should get the benefit of the doubt.
The Tigers and Royals are both bottom 10 in OPS this season against lefties and Skubal has proven that he is a high upside rotation piece for the Tigers before having flexor tendon surgery last year. Last year, he posted a 3.21 ERA across 21 starts for Detroit.
He'll face a KC lineup that is 23rd in OPS that has generated the third fewest homers against lefties this season.
Lynch has a smaller sample, only eight starts, and has been fine in those starts, posting a 4.18 ERA, but has been trending upwards, pitching to a 2.63 ERA over his last four starts.
The Tigers are just as bad as the Royals are against lefties, and I imagine the team will have plenty of more struggles against the emerging arm of Lynch.
Trust both lefty pitchers on Tuesday and take the under.
