Magglio Ordonez Hits the DL, Andy Dirks Heading North

Anyone that has watched Magglio Ordonez bat this year has been able to tell that his ankle is still bothering him. Ordonez has shown very little power and routinely grounded out to the middle infielders. Jim Leyland has given him some days off but the team decided to give him an extended break today by placing him on the 15 day disabled list.

Andy Dirks carried his solid spring over to the AAA season. He’s put together a fine start for the Toledo Mud Hens by hitting .328 with six home runs, 20 RBI, and ten stolen bases. History tells us that Jim Leyland won’t hesitate to use Dirks. The Tigers simply don’t call guys up just to sit on the bench. The promotion of Dirks and the playing time that comes with it will be a first step towards settling what has become a crowded, and sometimes confusing, outfield situation for the Tigers. Matt and I discussed that in last night’s podcast.
