Down on the Farm: Shawn Teufel Shines in Triple-A Debut

After success in the bullpen this season for the Advanced-A Lakeland Flying Tigers, southpaw Shaw Teufel was stretched out and moved to the starting rotation. After posting a 4-3 record with a 3.63 ERA, Teufel was recently promoted to Triple-A Toledo for a late season spot-start.

In his Triple-A debut Teufel tossed six innings of shutout baseball, surrendering just three hits and striking out a career-high seven batters. Thanks to a little run-support, Teufel notched his first Triple-A win as the ‘Hens defeated the Bisons 4-0.

Here’s where things get interesting! Shawns father, Tim, played 11 seasons in the Major Leagues and is the manager of Triple-A Buffalo in the Mets system. So not only was Teufel solid in his Triple-A debut, he also got to stick it to his ole’ man! Perhaps even odder though was the fact that Tim Teufel also played for the Toledo Mud Hens when he was in the Minnesota farm system.
