Recap: Verlander, Tigers Blow Series Vs. Indians

facebooktwitterreddit

Not too often that Justin Verlander has a late game blow-up, but it happened tonight.

Verlander, in reasonable cruise control through 6 innings, was abysmal in the 7th, giving up back-to-back homers to Carlos Santana and Travis Hafner (on 2 high in the zone fastballs), as part of what would be a brutal 4-run 7th inning, and the Tigers go down 5-3 to the Indians. JV went 7 innings, giving up 5 ER, 9 hits, 2 walks, and only 4 strikeouts.

The Tigers had an Alex Avila double and Omar Infante walk in the 9th against Chris Perez, but ultimately 2 more would be left stranded, as Quintin Berry struck out to end the game.

The Tigers travel to the middle portion of their road trip, as they move to Toronto for 3 games vs the Blue Jays.

This game also saw the end of Miguel Cabrera’s modest 8-game winning streak.

Chris Perez has now saved 7 games this season vs. the Tigers.

Omar Infante was 0 for 3 tonight, bringing him to 1 for 10 since rejoining the Tigers via trade.

Justin Verlander has now pitched in 63 consecutive starts while going at least 6 innings.

The Tigers fall to 1/2 behind the White Sox with the loss. They travel to Arlington this weekend to face the Texas Rangers.
