Craig Calcaterra of NBC’s Hardball Talk rolled up his sleeves to answer baseball’s most pressing question. In this, the Hot Stove time of year, everyone is wondering: where does my team’s manager rank on the handsomeness scale? The Answer for Detroit Tigers fans is, apparently, right at the top. New skipper Brad Ausmus was tabbed by Calcaterra as the singular most handsome manager in the major leagues.
"1. Brad Ausmus: When my girlfriend was here in Orlando over the weekend we were sitting in the lobby and Brad Ausmus came in the front door of the hotel. She sprung up, followed him and said “I’ll text you later.” And I wasn’t even mad, man. I get it. He’s movie star handsome. And this isn’t new. There are factions of female baseball fans who have been beating the Ausmus drum for years in various places on the Internet. He is probably the best looking manager in the history of baseball."
When I showed my wife a picture of Ausmus after he was announced as Jim Leyland‘s replacement, her response was “wow” followed by a long smile. I thought at the time that she was grinning because she had high hopes for a low sacrifice bunt total, but thinking back, she may have been reflecting on the man’s doggone good looks.
Many women love baseball because it’s the best game in the world and would watch no matter what, but I’m guessing a few more females in our state — including those who weren’t previously known to enjoy sports — will be brushing up on their baseball strategy in order to better be in front of the TV for those critical late-game pitching changes.
Go and read the entire post, because it’s quite entertaining.
