Have the Detroit Tigers found the much needed help for the bullpen? One source says so.

If this trade is true, the Tigers will get a very legitmate arm to close games in place of Joe Nathan (not likely) or to be a seventh or eighth inning guy along with Joba Chamberlain.

Corey Knebel, we know well. He’s pitched in eight games for Detroit, having spent time in AA and AAA this season. In eight games with the Tigers, he has a 6.23 ERA in 8 2/3 innings. He has sported an ERA of 1.20 and 1.96 in 11 and 14 games respectively in Erie and Toledo.

Jake Thompson was one of the Tigers’ top prospects, and pitched well in the All-Stars Futures Games a couple of weeks ago, earning the victory.

This is a steep price to pay for Soria, the former Kansas City Royals’ closer who is in his first full year back from Tommy John surgery. He has a 1-3 record, 2.70 ERA, 17 saves in 19 chances and a WHIP of 0.870. He is signed through 2014 with a club option in 2015.

Then again, any piece(s) the Tigers were going to part with would be steep. Fans complaining about the bullpen last night, this is what you get. Like it or not.
