Rick Porcello is raising awareness for Duchenne; How you can help!

Detroit Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello has always been a favorite among Detroit fans; not just for his performance on the diamond but for being such a class act off the field as well.

Recently, I discovered a site raising money, as well as awareness for Duchenne.

“Duchenne is the most common degenerative muscle disease found in boys.  As most kids are growing and gaining independence, boys with Duchenne are losing muscle function and mobility. “

The name of the organization is Team Joseph, which assists those living with Duchenne. This particular campaign involving Rick Porcello is titled “Strikeout Duchenne 2014.”

This muscle disease affects all aspects of the human body, including basic motor skills, difficulty walking, and breathing problems. According to National Institute of Health’s website, 1 in every 3,600 infants will be born with Duchenne and there is no way to cure it. But with the help of many, the overall quality of life of those affected can be bettered.

The goal of this foundation was to raise $20,000. And for every dollar up to $20,000, Rick Porcello will match. The campaign has currently raised over $25,000 ($45,000 including Porcello’s donation) and donations are still flooding in from people everywhere.

How to help:

No donation is too small, and if you’d like to donate or help out in any way possible, information can be found here.
