Game Preview
The Detroit Tigers will look to win their fifth straight series against a division opponent to start the season already having won the opening series of the year versus the Twins. Monday is also the first day of an important 11-day road trip for Detroit, in which all 10 games will be against AL Central foes.
When We Last Met
The Tigers played the Twins in their home opener three weeks ago and beat Minnesota, 4-0, behind a very strong outing from starter David Price. Detroit swept the series, outscoring Minnesota, 22-1. The one run for the Twins was unearned.
Minnesota, however, has won seven of its last 11 games to crawl back into contention in the competitive AL Central.
Pitching Matchup
Price will hope to keep the dominance versus the Twins going as he makes the start Monday. He would also like to rebound from his last outing where he only threw 2 1/3 innings and allowed eight runs on 10 hits versus the New York Yankees. Price was uncharacteristically wild, walking three batters too, but the very cold and snowy weather could have had something to do with that.
Left-hander Tommy Milone will take the ball for Minnesota. Milone has been one of Minnesota’s best pitchers this season, going 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA, 1.23 WHIP in 18 2/3 innings. He did not pitch versus the Tigers in the first series of the year.
