Royals sign former Tiger Vance Wilson
According to Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star, the Royals have signed former catcher Vance Wilson to a minor league deal. Wilson is still rehabilitating from his elbow injury that hampered him from making an impact on the club in 2009.
Wilson hit .283 with 5 homers and 18 RBIs in 2006. According to Mellinger, Wilson will not be invited to big league camp, because rehabbing is number one on Wilson’s list. It would seem that Vance will start the season at AAA Omaha.
Around the Web:
The Tigers also signed former 2006 Post-Season Hero and Jim Leyland fave- Alexis Gomez yesterday to a minor league deal. There is mixed feelings from Tiger bloggers. I tend to agree with the majority that think that Leyland will use Gomez in the wrong situations. Gomez hits from the left side, and Leyland loves that he has power from the left side. I just hope the Tigers don’t forget they have a young, scrappy and versatile lefty named Clete Thomas, who could fill the same void, with better defense. Here are the thoughts from across the blogosphere:
- Detroit Tigers Weblog hopes Leyland doesn’t misuse Gomez, but has nothing against the signing.
- Bless You Boys doesn’t understand where Gomez fits with the team.
- Take 75 North believes this is to shore up weak depth at the outfield position in Toledo. I think he is on to something (or at least I hope).
With the news flowing in so slowly, Continue more of the same from me. I will be working on the MCB Top 30, including number 25 Scott Green.
