Clay Rapada Added to Roster

Bobby Seay was scheduled for an MRI today following two unsuccessful outings over the past two day.  Gerald Laird summoned trainer Kevin Rand to take a look at Seay after Laird noticed something in Seay’s follow through that looked amiss.

With the Tigers in the midst of a late-season push for the playoffs, left handed reliever Clay Rapada has been added to the active roster and will be uniform tonight.  Rapada has made two appearances with the Tigers this season, but has not pitched since September 4, with the Toledo MudHens.

Given Rapada’s rust and the fact that he was not recalled when rosters expanded, one can assume that he is here more as an insurance policy, incase Seay’s injury warrants any kind of extended missed action.

I would hope that Rapada has been throwing at least occasionally, incase this exact situation were to happen, so hopefully it won’t take long to get his arm into game shape.

There is no word as of yet to the results of Seay’s MRI, but this roster move indicates at least some worry that the injury could force him to miss time.

UPDATE: From MLB.com’s Jason Beck (via twitter):

"Bobby Seay sidelined at least thru weekend with mild strain of minor pectoral muscle. Will be re-evaluated Monday."
