Tigers Recall Figaro?

According to a tweet from TigsTown.com’s Mark Anderson, the Tigers will be recalling RHP Alfredo Figaro from AAA Toledo today and he should be available for duty this afternoon.

Fiagro was last seen by Tigers fans when he was pressed into duty last September, losing a must-win game versus the White Sox on the final weekend of the season. To be fair, he wasn’t even with the club until shortly before that start and hadn’t pitched in better than three weeks.

So far this season, Figaro has made six starts with the MudHens, posting a 4-1 record and 2.55 ERA. In 35.1 innings, he has struckout 27 while walking 10.

Anderson says no word has yet been given on a corresponding roster move. It remains a possibility that Figaro is not activated until after the first game, if at all. The Tigers could decide they don’t need the extra arm and send him right back to Toledo without ever actually making a transaction. Either way, Figaro is going to be in Detroit today, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be a Tiger.

That leaves us open to speculate on what player will be leaving the active roster if Figaro is indeed recalled. Both Brad Thomas and Eddie Bonine are likely unavailable today thanks to their extended work on Monday. Could it be that Dontrelle Willis’ illness warrants a disabled list visit? Will he see Fu-Te Ni or Ryan Raburn optioned out? Perhaps this is the end of the road for someone like Thomas or Don Kelly?

I’ll be back with an update as soon as one is made public.
