Laird Family Takes Its Toll On Tigers Organization

Gerald Laird, also known as the black hole in the Tigers lineup, has certainly struggled this season. Perhaps even that understates the truth. Now the Laird family has found an external way to do damage to the Tigers organization. I don’t mean to add insult to injury but the irony of what happened last night when the Tigers AA affiliate Erie SeaWolves played the Trenton Thunder is too hard to ignore.

The Thunder turned a 6-5 ninth inning deficit into a 7-6 walk-off win with a home run off the bat of Brandon Laird. Yes, the younger brother of our very own Gerald Laird.

Not only did the home run cost Erie the game, it also completed Brandon Laird’s attempt to hit for the cycle after an RBI single in the second, a triple in the fifth and a double in the seventh. The cycle gives the younger Laird six multi-hit games in his last ten. Gerald has just two all season. Brandon now leads the Eastern League with 43 RBIs this season, five more than Gerald has driven in since putting on a Tigers uniform.

Does it hurt even more to find out Brandon Laird plays third base? Just thought I would ask…
