Sparky Anderson Passes On

Hopefully to a heaven with a baseball diamond. The Associated Press reports that Anderson died today in California of complications from dementia, after being placed in hospice care a day earlier. He was 76. There isn’t much more to be said, or maybe too much more to say it. To me, Sparky Anderson will always be the Tigers manager just like Ernie Harwell will always be the voice. Everyone since is just filling in. I was sad to see him go in 1995, when he resigned, though he was right that the Tigers needed a new direction. They started on that path right away, and we suffered through some of the grimmest seasons in Tigers’ history. Sparky was missed, is missed, and will continue to be missed by millions in Michigan and all around.
